Also before the kids...

This is NOT a postcard but an actual picture we took on our trip to Brazil. This is a remote little island off the cost of northern Brazil - Fernando de Noronha. We stayed here for a few days and enjoyed its beautiful beaches - all to ourselves. Yes, before the kids, we traveled to remote and exotic places, drank copiously and passed out in the tropical heat.

The beaches were beautiful and isolated. We enjoyed this beach all to ourselves.

Before the kids...

I came across this picture while trying to restore my external hard drive. This was us before the kids and when we could go to chi chi restaurants and eat in peace. Ed had just gotten a haircut (which he didn't like) and a strangely maniacal expression on his face...

Harden up, kid! Life is full of knocks and bumps!

Thomas took a spill on one of the gigantic slides at Legoland. Resilient kid that he is, he didn't seem bothered by it. His Dad, who took a few bumps himself on the very right of the screen, was more shaken up by the experience.

Halloween 2010

Maddie: Okay, why am I wearing this bear suit at Costco?
Thomas: Beats me. What makes you think I know what's going on?

Another trip to to the Doc

Ooo. I am 22 lbs! This may not sound like a lot, but I'm already too big for clothes for 12 month old babies. Where is the vanity sizing when you need it???
The nurse came in and stuck me with a needle to check my iron levels. I watched the whole time, but didn't cry one bit.
I wonder what this bandaid tastes like...
Don't be silly, of course I'm not going to actually eat it!

This expression must run in the family...

These photos separately were taken at Trader Joe's when Maddie and Thomas were about the same age (about 8 months). You can tell the differences in their personalities already...

Maddie is a little feisty. She is also impatient and does not tolerate being confined to a shopping cart and needs to be belted in and supervised at all times. A moment of inattention and she'll be standing, trying to hurl herself out.

Thomas, on the other hand, was such an obedient and calm baby that I had wondered why high chairs and shopping carts came with belts.

Cycling Fun!

Our daddy is very smart. He can assemble and put all sorts of things together.
How can I wiggle out of here?
Hmm. Do I like this?
Why, yes I do! Cycling is so much fun, especially when someone else is doing all the work!

Our Cutie Pie...

This is so cute that my teeth hurts just watching it...

Maddie's Rooster Comb

This is the rooster comb that I was referring to below - my hair does this naturally. Don't you love the crazy hair?

My 6 month doctor visit

My mother got me all dressed up to see someone she calls "the good doc"
Notice my new hair style? I typically sport a rooster's comb, but grandma tried something new with the hair.
It's pretty cool to be able to sit up on your own.

Thomas and Maddie's check up

They measured my height and my weight. I am now 37" tall and 31 lbs, which puts me in the 90th percentile. Not bad, huh?
My sister Maddie, however, is a little over 19 lbs. The good doctor says that she is off the charts for weight.
With the big brains that I inherited from my mother, my head circumference is quite impressive...
Again, Maddie is off the charts on height as well. It's a good thing that I'm older than her.

Who is this strange guy?

This man with earphones is really bugging me! Stop bothering me!!!
What is that? Oh, if only I could walk, I'd walk myself out of here!
I wanna go home!
